Levee Outreach Meetings
DFIRM and levee-related outreach meetings were conducted in Region IX as part of the Flood Map Modernization effort. These meetings were held in two rounds, as necessary, and are described below.
The goals of the Round 1 meetings with floodplain management professionals include:
- introduce the primary points of contact
- describe the background of the NFIP and Map Modernization
- describe FEMA’s Procedure Memo 43 and the current DFIRM schedule
- inform levee owners of certification requirements
- distribute a FEMA Region IX memo requesting 44 CFR 65.10 levee certification data within 30 days for levees that can be certified relatively easily
- request that communities and levee districts comment on and update levee data that has been collected to date
- request that communities provide any new benchmark or subsidence data, if available
The goals of the Round 2 meetings with floodplain management professionals include:
- notify levee owners and communities of which levees will and won’t be accredited on the DFIRMs
- identify levees that are eligible for Provisionally Accredited Levee (PAL) status
- offer the PAL Agreement to communities with PAL eligible levees to initiate the 90-day PAL Agreement timeline
- request that communities and levee districts provide any additional comments on and updates to the levee data that has been collected to date
